We were out of town…

posted by Doogie

We hate to miss any ride or group event, but this past weekend Michelle and I were off for a romantic road trip to the sunny Okanagan!  We found a marvelous B&B on Osoyoos Lake, the hosts John and June Wallace pampered us like a king and queen.

Wasn’t the sunshine unbelievable this weekend?  It couldn’t have come at a better time!

We did a wine tour on the bike between Osoyoos and Oliver.  There are literally dozens of exquisite estate wineries in the region, was fabulous to sample (in very TINY amounts!) the wonderful aroma and flavour of whites and reds of the interior.  Had a great dinner on Saturday night at Osoyoos Golf and Country Club.  A window table overlooking the valley at sunset was simply spectacular.

On Sunday we made a trip to Penticton, its been many years since either of us have been there.  Headed home and arrived back here just as the sun was setting, perfect timing!

Took as many pics as we could on our getaway, posted a few for viewing on Google for anyone interested.

Ride to Baker – Saturday Sept. 13th

posted by Eric

Well, it was an awesome ride!  We had 2 bikes, yup 2 bikes.  Great days like today (Saturday) are very limited and will not be found until next year.  I know everyone is busy, but 2 bikes?!

We made the most of it and I loved all of the twisties up to the top of Baker.  I got some decent pic’s in the gallery and I will add a few more in a couple of days.  I took pictures of other bikes so it looks like we rode up in a big group lol. I hope to see a lot more bikes at the show n’ shine at the church, and then later at the BBQ.

Regards, Eric

Video – Ride Like a Pro Rider Skills Show

posted by Eric

Here is a cool video on skills riding.  We talked about doing something like this in the church parking lot last spring.  We could set it up on one Monday night as long as we had a couple of instructors.  Any thoughts?

Here is the video on YouTube –>> Skills Video

An Update from Chris

posted by Chris

Hey guys,

Sorry I missed the ride on Monday. I hear it was a good one with lots of bikes in attendance. I was speaking with Doug today and he mentioned that he informed the group of my ride this past weekend to Mt. Baker. I just wanted to give you guys an update to let you know that I’m ok and that the reason I wasn’t at the Monday ride was because of work and not because of the accident that happened to my friend.

So here is what happened on my ride to Mt Baker… Everything started off great. We were doing the route that we did back in June. When we were about 10 to 15 minutes from the top we went around this corner and afterwards I did a quick check in my mirrors to see that my friend was still behind me. To my surprise she was nowhere to be seen. Making sure there was no traffic I quickly did a U-turn to go back and see what happened. As I got closer to the corner I saw my friend walking out from the bushes. I quickly (and as safely as I could) parked my bike off to the side and went to check to see if she was ok. She said she was fine and walking around. After I checked on her I then took a look to see where her bike was. The bike was located in a 3 foot deep ditch resting in some bushes on its side . With the help of another biker and his two sons who pulled over to help, we managed to back the bike out of the ditch. Miraculously the bike started and ran just fine. We checked it over to make sure everything was fine and safe to ride. The bike has since been inspected and the only damage it has suffered is cosmetic. Some scratches to the body and windscreen, a dent in the tank, and a broken headlight casing. So after walking off the fall, my friend being the trooper she is got right back on the bike and lead the rest of the way back home.

There is a fair bit more to this story (since I want to keep this somewhat short) and for those who are interested I will be at the Show-and-Shine this Sunday. I will say this about the accident… it was a very humbling experience to see first hand the dangers of what can happen when riding.

Regards,

Chris

Updated Gallery Pic’s

posted by Eric

Have a look at the updated gallery page.  Jim has been faithful taking pictures; he really has a talent.  Okay Bruce, you are a great photographer yourself.  BTW, Bruce has a cool photography site…

Hey I have missed a number of rides, mainly traveling for work.  I hope to see you all on a ride real soon.  Our warm summer days are numbered, so gotta get out there before fall hits us.  Yes I said that 4 lettered “F” word (fall).

Have a great one, Eric

Ride Schedule Page Fixed

posted by Eric

The “Ride Schedule” page has been fixed. We have had some issues with Google Maps at the bottom of the page. The page would not load if you use the Internet Explorer Browser. However, if you use the FireFox browser (like me), then you would not have noticed any issues.

But all is well and working on the web site. Look forward to seeing everyone on Monday night.

Regards, Eric

PS. I just got back from riding down to Oregon. A most awesome ride:) Found many insanely twisty back roads in the mountains!!

Tulameen Attendance

posted by Dave C

We are getting closer to the event day and so far the following people have indicated they are going:

Chris Erickson, Christine & Alwyn, Paul & Ruthanne, and Doug & Michelle; Tom & Penny are maybes. Bruce will come along for the ride and turn around in Princeton to meet family commitments. If I have left someone out, please get back to me – there is lots of room.

We will leave from Timmies at the appointed time (8:00 am); please arrive with gas and ready to go. We will swing by the Shell at Whatcom Rd to pick up Paul&Ruthanne and Bruce and continue out to Hope where we will stop for fuel again. After that the next stop will be the Husky in Princeton for another fill up before continuing on to Tulameen. There are gas pumps in Tulameen but they are a Mom ‘n’ Pop operation. I expect we will roll in to Tulameen between 12:30 and 1:00 pm depending on how much time we spend dallying at the stops. Bring some water and snacks if you want sustenance along the way. If it is a hot day, you will definitely want to drink water.

See you Saturday!

Dave

I am Back… I mean I got my new Bike

posted by Eric

Well I am finally on 2 wheels again, whoo hoo.  I just got my Yamaha FZ1 on the road.  2005-yamaha-fz1a.jpg

Regarding the ride to Tulameen on July 19th, I highly recommend it.  My family and I just spent a few days there and it was great.  As well, the road from Princeton to Tulameen is packed with twisties and will be the highlight of the ride.

Looking forward to riding with the group again,

Eric
